How feasible is nanotechnology education in the online context?

Hi everyone: I am an instructional designer in Canada. Currently, I am researching the feasibility of offering nanotechnology certificates or degrees in the online context. There are no such programs in Canada but there are a few in the United States. Offering such a program online would be a convenient way for working engineers to keep up to date with developments in their field. Does anyone have experience offering such programs online and what do you see as the major hurdles? Can, for example, the laboratory experience be replicated online? How effective are online simulations programs? Thank you very much for your responses! Sincerely, R. Lawson
