Energy Reference for Chemical Potential

  1. Sapan Agarwal

What is the reference energy for the chemical potential when calculating the electron density? I.e. does a chemical potential of zero mean that the fermi level is at the valence band edge? What about heterostructures? Is it set to zero energy? If so, what are the band energies referred to? Based on all.mat it seems like the zero energy point is the bulk valence band of GaAs.

    Thank you, Sapan
