This presentation is part of the 8th IEEE/ACM Workshop on Variability Modeling and Characterization (VMC) 2015.
This presentation provides an overview of the NEEDS initiative, which is funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and by the Semiconductor Research Corporation. The overarching goal is advance the science of nanodevices and enable new applications. The focus is on physics-based compact models for emerging devices. Such models link fundamental work on materials and devices to applications. NEEDS also has an infrastructure mission to develop tools and resources that facilitate the creation and dissemination of compact models. NEEDS has an educational mission too, which emphasizes the nanoscience behind the novel materials and devices being explored. This talk provides an overview of NEEDS and introduces a new set of open source Uncertainty Quantification tools that were developed by the material science community but which have applications in electronics.
