Transforming Pharmaceutical Manufacturing in the 21st Century – Indiana as a Center for Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing
21 Jul 2008 | Online Presentations | Contributor(s): Craig K. Svensson
The pharmaceutical industry is moving from a model of fully integrated pharmaceutical companies to fully networked pharmaceutical companies. In this latter model, major pharmaceutical companies are increasingly relying on partnerships for critical elements in the drug development process. This disaggregation within the pharmaceutical industry provides increasing opportunities for entrepreneurs interested in focused elements of the drug development process. An economic development opportunity exists for those regions able to provide a menu of services sought by companies operating under this new paradigm. A statewide initiative, BioCrossroadsLINX, has been launched in Indiana to enhance the capacity of biopharmaceutical manufacturing. This presentation will describe these trends in the pharmaceutical industry and how Indiana is positioned for growth in this new environment of disaggregation within the industry.
