    Dr. Xianming Shi, P.E. is the founding director of the Corrosion and Sustainable Infrastructure Laboratory (CSIL) at Montana State University. The CSIL has extensive research experience in the development and evaluation of coatings and other corrosion protection techniques as well as in the evaluation of deicer impacts on concrete, asphalt, metals, and the natural environment. Dr. Shi holds his Ph.D. in Chemistry, one M.Sc. in Applied Chemistry and a second M.Sc. in Industrial & Management Engineering, and B.S. in Corrosion & Protection. He has more than fifteen years of experience in conducting engineering and science research, with a demonstrated publication record, especially in the fields of corrosion and materials science. He is currently an Associate Research Professor with the Civil Engineering Department at MSU. He is an active member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committee on Corrosion (AHD45), Committee on Polymer Concretes, Adhesives, and Sealers (AHD40), Committee on Basic Research and Emerging Technologies Related to Concrete (AFN10), and Committee on Winter Maintenance (AHD65); as well as an associate member of a few American Concrete Institute (ACI) committees. He is an active member of ACI and of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE). Dr. Shi’s research has been supported by numerous DOTs and consortia, the U.S. DOT Research and Innovative Technology Administration, National Cooperative Highway Research Program, Airport Cooperative Research Program, and the private sector, through 36 projects with a total budget of over $7 million.
