  • Biography

    Kui Won Choi is currently a Principal Research Scientist in Biomedical Research Center at Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the College of Engineering at Seoul National University in 1980 and 1982 and his Ph. D. in Bioengineering from University of Michigan in 1991. After a post-doctoral training in Bone and Joint Center at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, he joined KIST in 1993.

    He served as a Head of Biomedical Research Center for 4 years, while he successfully developed domestic collaboration networks (MOU) in molecular imaging area with Asan Medical Center, Kyoungbuk Medical School and Wonju Technovalley for medical devices. He served as an Editor-in-chief of the Journal of Biomedical Engineering Research for 6 years (1998-2003).

    He is currently a president of the Korean Society of Biomechanics (2006-2007). He also serves as an International Advisory Committee Member of Asian Pacific Association of Biomechanics. His main research interest is medical device systems and is now expanding to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic systems utilizing molecular imaging techniques. He is a project leader of “Development of Core technologies of Silver Engineering” supported from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Energy of Korea.

    He has published over 65 peer-reviewed papers, 3 book chapters, and 2 review articles. He also filed 16 patents, and 2 patents have been licensed to companies.
