[Illinois] Biophotonics 2012: Spectroscopic Imaging

Matthew Schulmerich is a big believer that spectroscopy and quantitative imaging tools can play a critical role in the clinical workflow associated with all stages of pathology. By combining instrumentation developed for specific needs and focusing efforts on quantification, his research aims at aiding progress against human disease. With a background in analytical chemistry and an expertise in Raman spectroscopy, Matthew has been involved in several projects with this goal in mind. Raman spectroscopy is a very nice 'hammer', with almost an endless number of 'nails'. But any technique by itself will only fill-in parts of the puzzle. As such, he is working towards developing expertise in multi-modal approaches. He is always interested in new collaborations and expanding the methods he has been involved in developing.
