The Biophotonics Summer School brings together from a wide variety of disciplines to teach students about the biophotonics field. In 2011, some of the topics covered included principles of biophotonics, technology and methods of investigation. The latest research developments are also covered, including: biomolecular sensing, nanoprobes, nonlinear microscopy, nanoscopy, and nanoplasmonics. The summer school brought together students from across the world and from a multitude of backgrounds.
Dr. Tangella is a member of the Board of Directors for the following: Christie Clinic, Provena Covenant Medical Center, Provena Covenant Medical Center Foundation, Champaign County Medical Society and Countryside School. He actively participates in collaborative translational research at the world renowned Beckman Institutue at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Tangella's research interests include cellular biomedical imaging and optical characteristics of cancers. He actively teaches medical students and internal medicine residents as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Departments of Pathology and Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He was awarded the 2011 Board of Regents Young Executive Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives. Dr. Tangella and his wife, Mayra, enjoy traveling to new places with their family.
