Nanobiotechnology and Biosensors
This presentation is meant to provide an overview of the field of Nanobiotechnology and Bioelectronics with a focus on the development of electrical biosensors. It covers the principles, technologies, methods and applications of nanotechnology in the development of Biosensors.
After taking the lecture, you are expected to have
Fundamentals of electrochemistry, nanotechnology, biological recognition mechanism and their application in bioelectronics.
Electron transfer in solutions and solid surfaces. Principals of biosensors.
Biofunctionalization and surface modification. The applications of Nanotechnology in Bioelectronics. Analysis of biosensor measurements.
Dr. Chenzhong Li, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Florida International Unversity (Miami). Dr. Li received his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Kumamoto University in Japan in 2000. Dr. Li served one year as a post-doctoral research associate at University of British Columbia and two years as a professional research associate at University of Saskatchewan and Adnavance Technologies, Inc. He worked at Nanobiotechnology/Biosensor Group of Biotechnology Research Institute, Canada National Research Council as an Assistant Research Officer till 2004. Dr. Li is an expert in nanobiotechnology, specifically in the development of bioelectronics including biosensors and biofuel cells. Dr. Li’s research interests also include nanomaterial process, BioNEMS, nanotoxicity measurements and electron transfer study of various biomolecules.
Nano backgrounds: The research interests of Dr. Li are in 1. Development of biosensor devices and implantable biofuel cells; 2. Electron transfer properties of biomolecules; 3. BioMEMS/BioNEMS; 4. The applications of carbon nanotubes and nanoparticles in biomedical research; 5. Nanotoxicity.
