tutorials for the tools

Currently, tutorial videos are under ‘Supporting document’ tab and it is not so obvious for the users. Could you put a link for the tutorial videos on the ‘About’ tag or the right hand side of the first page? This will help users to find them easily.

I have had a couple of people ask me why the tutorial, that they spent a lot of time creating, is seemingly hidden on the tool information page. While trying to find a resolution to this problem, we thought that either the tutorials should be up associated with the tool information page and prominently displayed, or maybe tutorials should be submitted as a separate resource, and the developers can put their own link in the about sections of the tool information page. I think the first option (prominently display tutorials) is better because it makes it easier for the user, its more automatic. Plus we can encourage developers to add tutorials to their tools. If it is a part of the tool contribution process, it will look like all tool should have tutorials, which is a good thing.

It seems like a very concrete user feedback. The tutorials we do have , did indeed taken a lot of effort to create. If we have them we should give them a BIG visibility. This may also entice other tool authors to create these important documents.

At the end of the “Description” section of the About tab content we could add links to the tabs Supporting Documentation, Questions, Reviews. Since the About tab is open by default on arrival at the tool page, this would give more prominent display to these additional resources than would placing a link in the righthand column, the last place the eyes get to when reading a page.

Tutorial videos would then be prominently featured on the Supporting Documents tab. Perhaps there would be a “Tutorial Videos” link from the About tab that also goes to the Supporting Documents tab, but just reveals when there are tutorial videos explicitly on the About tab.
