use the software "visit" as part of the nanoHUB rendering engine

"visit" is a community supported rendering software - supported by a national lab
It enables the visualization of continuum mesh quantities as well as atomistic quantities.

For example in bandstructure lab we have trouble visualizing potentials unless we map them to rectilinear.
We should really visualize real data and nothing else.

That is pretty much true for all the OMEN-based codes that use crystal structures.

Presume this is quite a bit of effort - but we do have application drivers for this now.

this capability is becoming crucial now for OMEN and NEMO deployments. We need the contour capabilities and a variety of features in visit

it is not completely clear as to how well supported visit or paraview are in terms of GPU rendering. Maybe that is something the NEMO team can assess.

To me being a NEMO developer the ability to visualize .vtk-data on nanohub, be it atomistic or continuous, is the single most important thing.

VisIt and Paraview both use OpenGL, which to my understanding provides the standard for GPU rendering.

So far we were doing atomic scale simulations, but we were not able to visualize them on such scale. So, now we’ll be able to show our simulation results. Also, I’m looking forward to see the 3D effects.
