Aggregate

Often in nanotechnology discussions, references to an aggregate is used interchangeably with references to an agglomerate. “In nanotechnology, a discrete group of particles in which the various individual components are not easily broken apart, such as in the case of primary particles that are strongly bonded together (for example, fused, sintered, or metallically bonded particles).”1

1. ASTM International, “Standard Guide for Handling Unbound Engineered Nanoscale Particles in Occupational Settings,” E 2535-07, § 3.2.3 (October 2007) (emphasis in original).
