This group focuses on the selective growth of nanostructures for integration into molecular electronics and the organization of nanoscale circuit elements on surfaces to create junctions and functional test devices.
Primary funding for this group comes from the NSF Center for Chemical Innovation (CCI) program in the form of the Center for Nanostructured Electronic Materials (CNEM). The CNEM website URL is:

A significant part of the group’s work focuses on the important question of how to use molecules to replace bulk materials as components in integrated circuits. There are several important challenges in this area: how can molecular components be oriented on surfaces with respect to one another? How can these components be connected into functional arrays? How can a finished hierarchical device be constructed in a stepwise manner without any of the steps damaging the previously formed architectures?
