Abstract

A major development of the last two decades, has been the physical and conceptual integration of what used to be two distinct unrelated fields, namely spintronics and magnetics. The full implications of this merger are still unfolding. This lecture will review some of the key concepts focusing primarily on spin transport in metals and semiconductors and the novel possibilities raised by the discovery of topological insulators.
