Abstract

In case you haven’t noticed, the internet is full of videos. Some of these videos are about cats and some about interesting physics topics. You might be surprised to find that some of these online videos are fake (but hopefully you aren’t surprised). But how can you tell if a video is real or fake? In this talk, I will use the basic ideas of video analysis and walk you through several videos to find the separate the fakes ones from the real ones.

Bio

image Rhett Allain is an associate professor of physics at Southeastern Louisiana University and the author of the Wired magazine science blog Dot Physics. He received his Ph.D. from North Carolina State University in 2001.

Dr. Allain's research interests are in the field of Physics Education Research(PER). The primary goal of PER is to explore how students understand physics. This typically leads to the development of new curriculum and instructional techniques. Currently, Dr. Allain is interested in physics for elementary teachers, computational methods in introductory physics and student understanding of the nature of science.
