Metamaterials are artificial materials engineered to provide properties which may not be readily available in nature. These materials usually gain their properties from structure rather than composition, using the inclusion of small inhomogeneities to enact effective macroscopic behavior.

Plasmonic Metamaterials: Unusual Optics and Applications
28 Feb 2008 | Online Presentations | Contributor(s): Igor Smolyaninov
Surface plasmon-polaritons (or plasmons) are collective excitations of the conduction electrons
and the electromagnetic field on the surface of such good metals as gold and silver. Near the...
Plasmonic Nanophotonics: Coupling Light to Nanostructure via Plasmons
4.5 out of 5 stars
04 Oct 2005 | Online Presentations | Contributor(s): Vladimir M. Shalaev
The photon is the ultimate unit of information because it packages data in a signal of zero mass and has unmatched speed. The power of light is driving the photonicrevolution, and information...

Some Remarks to Electrodynamics of Materials with Negative Refraction
26 Jun 2007 | Online Presentations | Contributor(s): Victor G. Veselago
The negative refraction coefficient n < 0 can be introduced for isotropic materials with anti-parallel directions of phase and group velocities. If some of material can be described by negative n...
Taming Light and Electrons with Metamaterials
11 Jul 2011 | Online Presentations | Contributor(s): Nader Engheta
In recent years, in my group we have been working on various aspects of metamaterials and plasmonic nano-optics. We have introduced and been developing the concept of "metatronics", i.e....
Transformation Optics at Optical Frequencies
03 Feb 2010 | Online Presentations | Contributor(s): John Pendry
Metamaterials, i.e. artificial materials with rationally designed
geometry, composition, and arrangement of nanostructured building blocks
are opening a gateway to unprecedented electromagnetic...
Transmission of images with subwavelength resolution to distances of several wavelengths in microwave, terahertz and infrared ranges
4.0 out of 5 stars
08 Apr 2008 | Online Presentations | Contributor(s): Pavel Belov
The resolution of conventional imaging systems is restricted by the
diffraction limit: the details smaller than half-wavelength of radiation
cannot be resolved. Using novel engineered media with...
