07 Aug 2017 | | Contributor(s):: Binglin Zhao, Xingshu Sun, Muhammad A. Alam
We have build a PUMP can facilitate the development and optimization of solar farms globally by providing quick access to various meteorological database. Solar energy is one of the top runners among the renewable energy. The design and...
Epitaxial Strategies for High Power Optically Pumped Vertical External Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers and Metamorphic Antimonide Solar Cells
05 Dec 2016 | | Contributor(s):: Ganesh Balakrishnan
We present antimonide-based photovoltaic cells grown on GaAs and Silicon substrates for use as sub-cells in metamorphic multi-junction solar cells. These antimonide cells, based on GaSb, are designed to absorb near-infrared photons. The GaSb layer is grown on either GaAs or Silicon substrates.

The tool is designed to calculate the thermodynamic performance limit of single-junction and multi-junction solar cells.
A Crash Course in Nanophotonic Simulations
18 Jun 2015 | | Contributor(s):: Peter Bermel
This seminar will cover rapid, scalable computational methods used in simulating optical reflection,transmission, and absorption in complex structures. After a brief survey of the tools available, the S4 simulation tool will be demonstrated in detail.
Failures in Photovoltaic Modules
16 Apr 2015 | | Contributor(s):: Peter Bermel
In this talk, I will discuss some of the major sources of performance degradation for common glass-encapsulated PV modules, including crystalline silicon and thin films. The greatest reliability challenges have occurred in the latter, with recent studies showing that thin-film modules operating...
Exciton Dynamics Simulator
31 Dec 2012 | | Contributor(s):: Michael Heiber
Simulates the exciton dynamics in organic photovolatic devices
Design of Optoelectronically-active Polymers for Organic Photovoltaic Applications
01 Feb 2013 | | Contributor(s):: Bryan W. Boudouris
Organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices are of great interest due to their promise of providing flexible, lightweight, and inexpensive alternatives to their currently-used inorganic counterparts. However, large-scale implementation of these modules has been hampered due to their relatively low power...

NEGF theory of quantum photovoltaic devices
21 Sep 2011 | | Contributor(s):: Urs Aeberhard
Many high-efficiency photovoltaics concepts require an advanced control and manipulation of the optoelectronic properties of the active device structure, leading to a prominent role of low dimensional absorbers such as quantum wells, wires and dots in the implementation of these concepts....
Economic Factors on the Modern Photovoltaic Market
14 Sep 2011 | | Contributor(s):: Gregory T. Forcherio
Photovoltaic research is heavily driven by market demand and "green-energy" hopes of the future. Commercial and utility level thin film photovoltaic systems have almost reached grid parity worldwide, but the residential market, mainly comprised of crystalline and polycrystalline...
Optimum Morphology and Performance Gains of Organic Solar Cells
20 Aug 2011 | | Contributor(s):: Biswajit ray, Muhammad Alam
Morphology of light absorbing layer is known to dictate the power conversion efficiency of organic photovoltaic (OPV) cell. The innovation of bulk heterojunction (BHJ) led to significant improvement for exciton harvesting, but carrier recombination at the distributed interfaces and variability...
Solar Cells Lecture 4: What is Different about Thin-Film Solar Cells?
29 Aug 2011 | | Contributor(s):: Muhammad A. Alam
Thin film solar cells promise acceptable efficiency at low cost. This tutorial examines the device physics of thin-film solar cells, which generally require a different type of analysis than crystalline solar cells.
Solar Cells Lecture 5: Organic Photovoltaics
Organic solar cells make use of low-cost organic polymers forphotovoltaics. Although these solar cells may appear to be quitedifferent from solar cells made with conventional, inorganicsemiconductors (e.g. they make use of exciton generation rather than electron-hole generation) this...
