NCN Workshop on Simulation-Based Learning

Workshop attendees will learn:

• how to employ the “How People Learn Framework” to design effective student learning experiences using www.nanoHUB.org;

• about the opportunities and the issues that attend the use of simulations in learning situations;

• ideas about how best to utilize nanoHUB.org in your curriculum; and

• from faculty who have successfully incorporated nanoHUB.org into their curricula.


The workshop will include hands-on experience with semiconductor simulation tools on nanoHUB and discuss proven practices for using naonHUB resources to reach classroom goals.

8:30 – 9:00am Introduction to the nanoHUB
9:00 – 9:30am Participants play with nanoHUB. Discuss possible uses of nanoHUB in
research and classroom.
9:30 – 10:15am Introduction to How People Learn Framework
Presentation on Research in Engineering Education
10:15 – 10:30am Break
10:30 – 11:15pm Invited Speakers present about Experiences using the nanoHUB for
designing learning experiences
11:15 – 12:30pm Small Group Breakout: Focus on Content Selection, Timeline, and Further Content Development
All Small Group Breakout sessions will be facilitated by members of
the NCN Education Team

1:30 – 2:30pm Small Group Breakout Continues: Focus on Using nanoHUB Simulation Tools in Curriculum and Assessment
