Draft Status for Topics page

All topics page to have a draft status where it can be viewed and edited prior to “publication”. The topics page would only be seen in topics page list by its authors or if the url is specifically referenced. Otherwise would not appear in searches and the topics page list.

This will prevent half-baked topics pages from general user access.

I think the intent of topics pages is that they be on an equal intellectual footing on the site with other resources such as tools. If that is the case, then like those other resources there should be provision for development of a topics page “behind the scenes” and deployment when ready. There should probably also be thought given to whether a version history (like Wikipedia) should be adopted.

There is version history. Don’t know how it compares with Wikipedia. I don’t know if the version history is publicly available or not, but I see no reason it couldn’t be. If anything I would like the version history to be “publish” based instead of edit based. Let me edit for a while and then publish the new copy.

The “draft” notion is needed so one can edit and then publish. Right now I have (had) a student working on nanoHUB K12 resources and its half done and that’s what the public sees.
