NanoRegulation - Anticipating the Smallest Threats and the Largest Opportunities

Category: Seminar
Description: The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is hosting the third Nanotechnology Symposium: "NanoRegulation - Anticipating the Smallest Threats and the Largest Opportunities" on March 19, 2009 in Sacramento, California. The symposium will also be available via webcast at http://www.calepa.ca.gov/broadcast/ . Please join us for this review of nanomaterials regulation. This event will focus on EPA's current activities, DTSC's chemical information call-in program for nanoscale materials, and industry perspectives. Federal interest in nanomaterials and California's efforts in this area, combined with university and industry developments, provide an opportunity for fostering technological advances that recognize environmental and public health concerns. DTSC's goal is to create a partnership to identify information gaps and research needs aimed at sustainable processes and safe applications. Speakers include: > Assembly Member Mike Feuer, 42nd District > Kristan Markey, U.S. EPA Nanoscale Materials Stewardship Program > Richard Denison, Ph.D., Environmental Defense > Sheila Davis, Silicon Valley Toxic Coalition > Professor Timothy Malloy, UCLA > Mark Bunger, Lux Research > Mary Beth Miller, Unidym, Inc. The symposium is free and open to the public. A background in science, chemistry, or physics is not required to attend. Registration is required for on site attendance, and space is limited. Web cast attendees are encouraged to register in order to receive information updates and notification of future symposia. You can also view prior nanotechnology symposia materials and archived video at http://www.dtsc.ca.gov/TechnologyDevelopment/Nanotechnology/ArchivedSymposium.cfm . If you need assistance or special accommodation, please contact DTSC by Tuesday, February 17 at sympreg2@dtsc.ca.gov. For questions about registration, contact Cathy Cooke (ccooke@dtsc.ca.gov) at (916)323-3380 or Suzanne Davis (sdavis@dtsc.ca.gov) at (916)327-4206.
