BiographyDr. John W. Sutherland is presently Professor and Fehsenfeld Family Head of Environmental and Ecological Engineering (EEE) at Purdue University. Sutherland received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in industrial engineering and his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). His research and teaching interests are focused on design and manufacturing for sustainability, and quality and productivity improvement. He has mentored over 100 graduate students, including 31 PhD students, to the completion of their degrees. His record of scholarship includes over 400 papers that have been published in various journals and conference proceedings, and a widely utilized textbook, Statistical Quality Design and Control: Contemporary Concepts and Methods. He is a Fellow of SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers), ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), and CIRP (International Academy for Production Engineering).
