What to Submit
Each team should prepare and submit a technical document and a video presentation. Details for each part of the submission, an upload link to submit the files, and information about the judging criteria are below.
Technical Submission:
-
A blinded pdf document created from slides (such as PowerPoint or Keynote) that presents your solution to the challenge; a formal report is not needed.
-
A separate Appendix with information such as input files and/or output logs.
-
To blind the entry, use only the registered team name on these documents. Identifying information such as names of team members, their majors, or identification of colleges or universities is not to be included.
-
Use this format for the filename: TeamName-Technical.pdf
-
The slides should be succinct and structured as follows:
-
Overview of the final results with an explanation of the challenge and questions.
-
Description of the approach.
-
Simulation results and interpretation. Include material requested in the challenges, for example:
-
Important graphs or other output reported by the nanoHUB App or Tool
-
Parameter values selected
-
-
Solutions and discussions of additional challenges, if performed.
-
Summary of the work, possibly explain new open questions that emerge from the work or innovative ways that the work could be used.
-
List of reference material used (citations to this material should be included where appropriate.)
-
Presentation Video Submission:
-
A 5 minute (maximum) video presentation (.mp4 format preferred).
-
Use this format for the filename: TeamName-Video.mp4
-
The presentation should generally follow the structure of the technical submission, but be directed towards an audience of non-experts.
-
Include a discussion of the larger context in which this challenge is important, as well as any innovations that might emerge from this work.
-
Clearly define the roles and contributions of each team member.
Where to Submit
Upload the technical submission and the presentation video by 9 pm EDT on Sunday, May 2, 2021.
The files do not have to be submitted at the same time, or by the same person, but be sure to use the file name conventions designated.
Evaluation
Entries will be evaluated by two separate panels, each contributing 50% to the final score.
-
Technical Evaluation: The specialist teams who created each challenge will judge the blinded submissions on their technical merit. Since the challenges are all open-ended, no formal evaluation rubric will be available before the competition starts. This will enable a competitive evaluation between the competing entries.
-
Presentation Evaluation: A group of judges with a variety of different technical backgrounds will evaluate each submission according to a rubric that is shared across all challenges. The team should focus on communicating their results to a non-specialist audience.
