nanoHUB IGNITE 2021 is a simulation-based exploration and design challenge open to undergraduate students. Use nanoHUB tools to solve one of our problems in nanotechnology, nanobiology, nanophotonics, or machine learning.

You do not need to install anything on your computer. nanoHUB Apps and Tools are built on research-based simulation engines and run in the nanoHUB cloud, so you can immediately begin your exploration and design.

Your team will compete nationally across multiple colleges and universities. All participants will be recognized with a certificate of participation.

Winning team members will each be awarded a $50 Amazon gift card and be highlighted in the nanoHUB newsletter.

Choose Your Challenge

1 ARTIFICIAL ATOMS
Design a quantum-dot-based light detector that has specific angle dependences.

2 COVID-19
Explore different drug treatment conditions for SARS-CoV-2.

3 NANOPHOTONICS
Simulate the structural colors of Blue Morpho butterflies.

4 MACHINE LEARNING
Use machine learning to maximize a material's hardness.

5 SEMICONDUCTOR DEFECTS
Predict semiconductor impurity levels with machine learning.

The Details

When: The competition will run from Friday, April 9th until 9 pm EDT on Sunday, May 2nd, 2021.

Who: Undergraduate students - Teams of 1, 2 or 3.

There are three steps to get started in the competition:

1. Complete the individual registration.  If you do not yet have a nanoHUB account, create one before you register.

2.  Read about the challenges, review the competition requirements and guidelines, ask questions in the forum, look for others who are interested in forming a team with you.  Form a team and decide which challenge you want to attempt.

3.  Register your team.  Each team member should complete the team registration.
