IWCE 2015 presentation

We employ a newly-developed three- dimensional (3D) physical simulator to study Si resistive switching nonvolatile memory (RRAM) structures. We couple a stochastic simulation of ion transport to the ‘atomistic’ simulator GARAND and a self-heating model to explore the switching processes in these devices. The model represents a significant improvement compared to the phenomenological models based on the resistor breaker network. The simulator is…

We are aiming at the realization of microsystems and nanosystems with novel and unique functions by integrating functional elements in different domains such as mechanics, electronics, chemistry, optics and biotechnology. These micro/nano systems are expected to be novel machines, which will support the 21st century. In this presentation research pursued in Nano/Micro System Engineering Lab., a three dimensional micro fabrication and micro/nano assembling technology for construction of micro/nano systems, evaluation of mechanical properties of thin films, micro sensors, micro-actuators will be introduced.

In this talk, I use a simple graphical approach to demystify the device and explain why the experimental results are easy to misinterpret. Since the NC-FET is just a special case of a much broader class of phase-change devices and systems (e.g., transistors, memories, MEMS, logic-in-memory architecture) that operate by tailoring the Landau potential energy landscape, once NC-FET is understood, the operation of all other devices becomes intuitively obvious as well. The talk will conclude with a discussion of four possible roads to improving NC-FET device performance.

In the last 50 years, solid state devices like transistors have evolved from an interesting laboratory experiment to a technology with applications in all aspects of modern life. Making transistors is a complex process that requires unprecedented collaboration among material scientists, solid state physicists, chemists, numerical analysts, and software professionals. And yet, as you will see in part 1 of this course (first 5 weeks), that the basics of current flow though solid state …
