Closed Captioning (CC) for nanoHUB Videos

How to turn on Closed Captioning for nanoHUB videos on YouTube

  1. First, access the nanoHUB.org channel on YouTube:
  2. Select a video of interest.
  3. In the same bar as the play button, click on the “CC” icon; it will become red.
  4. Scroll over the CC icon and click on “Transcribe Audio”.
  5. A pop-up box will appear, explaining that transcribing is a Google BETA service. Click “OK”.
  6. The video will now play with English closed captions.
  • NOTE: To turn off closed captions, simply click on the CC icon so that it becomes grey.

How to translate closed captions

  1. Follow the steps above to turn on English closed captions.
  2. Scroll over the “CC” icon and click on “Translate Captions”
  3. Choose your language of interest from the scroll-down menu and click “OK”.

How to download closed captioning text =

  • You may also be interested in downloading the actual captioning text, for instance if you would like to compile video text into a book. In order to do this, follow the instructions below.
  • NOTE: YouTube only allows you to download the captioning text for videos that you upload. Hence, you must be the YouTube account administrator.
