Looking for a list of all open source tools on nanoHUB
In support ticket #11156, Matt Swanson says, “It would be nice to be able to view open source/open project areas of tools currently being developed with nanoHUB. Maybe this is already possible, but I wasn’t able to find this after searching around for a bit. I think this could both help encourage collaboration among researchers as well as result in better tool quality (if a project is looking for an experienced Rappture developer, they could post this comment on the project page).
Maybe the listing on the http://nanohub.org/tools page could be more of a table (with pagination too), and the open source projects could be highlighted with an icon.

We need to tag tools athat are open source. I suggest “open source tool” which is consistant with other “tool” tags such as “research tool”, “education tool”, “parallel tool”, etc.

Contribtool could automatically add/remove an “open source” tag when a tool is published. That way you could certainly browse using that tag. Better yet, we can fix the resources/tools page to show an open source icon next to the open source tools, just the way we do for “NCN supported”. We should also have an “open source” tag at the top of the filter list (just like NCN supported) and have a legend down below.
If we’re really ambitious, we could do something similar for nanohub.org/tools.

Isn’t this a “search” problem? Shouldn’t I be able to search for “open source” and find all the pages that are related to it?
I might want to search of “open source” and “nano electronics” to narrow the results.

This capability should be provided via a user-selected search criterion.
