Abstract

DAVINCI (Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble gases, Chemistry, and Imaging) is a planned mission for an orbiter and atmospheric probe to Venus. NASA selected DAVINCI, and the separate VERITAS mission, on 2 June 2021 to be part of their Discovery Program focused on planetary science missions that deepen what we know about the solar system. This lecture will discuss the NASA DAVINCI mission and the results from radiation testing of an emerging class of microprocessors (Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and Vision Processing Units (VPU)) designed to enable edge computing and artificial intelligence (AI) applications, under consideration for the mission.
