Abstract
PRIMARY GOALS OF THE PROGRAM
-
To conduct precompetitive research. The MNTL IAP offers a cost-effective approach for companies to develop insight into commercial applications for academic research, and a mechanism for faculty and students to connect with commercial research applications.
-
To develop an MNTL graduate student industry recruiting pipeline. The MNTL IAP will develop specific topical connections for sponsored research to connect uniquely qualified students to company internships and full-time employment opportunities.
-
To build MNTL-relevant Industry working groups that can serve on industry boards for large proposals. Increasingly, federal agencies require large center proposals (e.g., NSF ERCs and STCs) to have a well-established innovation ecosystem. The MNTL IAP benefit Industry Members with relevant fundamental and precompetitive research supported by federal grants.
-
To facilitate technology incubation. The proposed MNTL IAP will connect with university, local, state, and federal programs designed to encourage economic development through innovation. Examples are federal SBIR grants, economic development grants, coordination with the Research Park, and coordinated venture capital discussions where appropriate.
